You've picked the day, maybe even the restaurant, and the one thing that doesn't exist yet is the ring.
Custom engagement rings typically take about four to eight weeks, and complex designs, rare stones or extra rounds of changes can add time. Every design is its own project, so think of that as a general guide. We'll talk through your own timeline at your Avon Lake consultation.
From First Idea to Pickup
A custom ring moves through a handful of clear stages, and knowing them makes the wait less mysterious.
Consultation and ideas. Bring photos, sketches or simply a feeling. We talk through what your partner loves and wears every day, and that conversation sets the direction. You can even begin in our online Ring Builder before you visit.
CAD model and color renderings. We turn the idea into a 3-D model with color renderings, so you see the ring before anything is built.
Stone selection. The center stone is chosen in the showroom, where you can compare diamonds side by side in person.
Approval. We make changes until the design matches what you pictured. Nothing goes into production until you say yes.
Craftsmanship. Our master craftspeople build the ring from the approved design.
Finishing and pickup. After final finishing, we arrange a pickup appointment so you can see the finished ring. If you can share your partner's ring size early, tell us at the consultation.
What Can Make It Faster or Slower
A rare or very specific diamond can take longer to source than a more common one. Every round of changes to the renderings adds time, and a detailed design takes longer to model and build than a classic solitaire.
Your own pace matters too. Approval is one step you control, so gathering ideas early and answering promptly pays off. If you're building around a family stone, share it at the start so the design can be drawn around it, the way we do with heirloom and custom jewelry.
Planning Around a Proposal Date
Starting early gives you room for a second look at the renderings. Our custom team works within your timeline and your budget, so mention your date at the first conversation.
If the date is close and a custom design feels like a stretch, our ready-to-wear engagement rings are another way to arrive with a ring in hand.
Questions About the Custom Ring Process
What happens at the first custom ring consultation?
You talk through your vision with our team, and we ask about the person who'll wear the ring. Bring photos, sketches or a ring size if you have one, and we'll talk through style, budget and date. Consultations are complimentary and relaxed, so you can ask questions, learn what's possible and decide on next steps at your own pace.
Do I approve the design before the ring is made?
Yes, nothing is built until you give the go-ahead. You review a CAD model with color renderings first and can ask for adjustments, so the ring you collect is the one you've already seen. Take the time you need with the renderings.
What can slow a custom ring down?
Mostly it comes down to the stone, the design and the pace of decisions. A hard-to-find diamond, a detailed setting or several revision rounds can stretch the schedule, while quick feedback on the renderings keeps things moving. That last part is the easiest one for you to influence.
Can I start the design online before visiting?
Yes, the online Ring Builder lets you design a ring in 3-D before you ever walk in. You then visit the showroom to choose a center stone and finalize the details, so you arrive with a clear idea of what you want.
Should I get the finished ring appraised?
Yes, it's a smart step once you have the ring. An appraisal documents the diamond, gemstones and metal, and our gemologists can handle it. Appraisals are worth refreshing every three to five years, so the paperwork keeps up with your ring.
