Wedding and engagement rings are treasured symbols of love and commitment. But our associates don’t just sell jewelry – we also help customers care for and protect their investments for decades to come. Whether you need a quick cleaning and inspection or a more in-depth repair, we have the knowledge and skill to get the job done. A member of Independent Jewelers Organization (IJO), Peter & Co. Jewelers is experienced in helping customers care for their keepsakes. Here, we'll outline some of the ways you can have your jewelry fixed and altered.
Your ring should fit snugly on your finger without constricting. It should slide on easily and pull slightly when taking it off. Whether it's too large or too small, our jeweler can help by carefully adjusting your ring's band so that it fits comfortably.
If you've inherited a family ring that’s too large for your hand, or maybe an existing ring just doesn’t fit like it used to, ask for it to be sized down. Our jeweler will remove a small piece from the bottom of the
band, then form the ring back together using either a torch solder or laser welder (depending on the ring’s style). You’ll be unable to tell that the ring was ever cut. Plus, it'll be cleaned, refinished, and inspected before it's returned.
If your wedding band only needs a slight increase in size, our jewelers may be able to stretch out the ring up to a half size larger. For other rings, including those with gemstones, we may need to cut the bottom of the band and add an extra piece of matching metal. We’ll then solder or weld the band and metal insert back together, forming a continuous piece.
Advanced equipment allows us to do more intricate repair work on heirlooms and antique pieces. Modern jewelry stores like ours use technology such as laser welders to resize rings with delicate gemstones that could be damaged by a traditional torch solder.
We know that wedding and engagement jewelry are treasured keepsakes – that’s why our jewelers will take the utmost care when cleaning and polishing your ring. If you have an heirloom piece that's become tarnished, bring it to Peter & Co. Jewelers to gently reinstate its former sparkle.
Some customers choose to have rhodium plating added to keep pieces made from white gold looking like new. Because gold naturally has a yellow tone, white gold can start to look more yellow over time. Coating a white gold ring with rhodium gives it a sparkling-white appearance. Rhodium is naturally hypoallergenic and is highly resistant to corrosion, so it will protect your ring while maintaining its bright, white finish. After carefully cleaning and polishing your engagement or wedding band, we can apply rhodium plating. It can also be used for platinum and silver jewelry.
Because they're worn every day, engagement rings and wedding rings occasionally get damaged or the setting becomes loose, or prongs wear down. We know that something as singular as your engagement ring or a family heirloom carries a sentimental attachment, and we're especially careful with these tasks. Common jewelry repair services include:
Peter & Co. Jewelers can provide customers with a reference number, so they can check on the status of their jewelry repair at any time online. With the right care and maintenance, your ring will last for decades and can be passed down to the next generation.
